Who is Federica really? President of Pontevecchio, undisputed leader, feared and respected. Her authority admits no weaknesses. But what hides behind that sharp character and that seemingly indestructible strength?

Federica is one of the most complex and multi-faceted figures in the novel. At first glance, she appears as the classic antagonist: authoritative, dominant, sometimes cruel, especially towards her sister Annalisa. She is the president of the Pontevecchio team, a role she interprets with military rigor, imposing strict rules on the members of her group and tolerating no deviation from her directives.
But what makes Federica a three-dimensional character is the profound vulnerability hidden behind this armor. Her rigidity stems from childhood trauma: This trauma has shaped her vision of the world and relationships.
The obsessive control she exercises over others is a desperate attempt to maintain a semblance of order in a universe that, in her experience, can collapse at any moment. Her intransigence with rules is a way to create boundaries in a world that seemed to her devoid of reliable structures.
What makes her particularly fascinating is the internal conflict between her need to dominate and her fear of being abandoned. Her hatred toward Linda and the rivalry she has fueled for years actually hide a deep sense of betrayal and the feeling of being replaced in the affections of her loved ones.
Federica is not just problematic: she is a survivor who learned to fight before she understood what it really meant to lose. Her journey in the novel is that of a person who must learn that true strength lies not in control, but in accepting vulnerability.
